Jelena + Steve's Topsail Beach Wedding - 8.30.15

10/29/2015

Jelena + Steve tied the knot just a few streets down from their home in Surf City, NC. This loving, fun couple had a beautiful beach ceremony and they were accompanied by 92 of their closest friends and family members. There were two wooden stumps with floral arrangements on them creating an altar.

After the ceremony, guests were directed to enjoy the cocktail hour on the pool side deck of the beachfront house that the couple rented for the week. Knot Too Shabby Events was hired for month of wedding coordination to make sure the day ran smoothly for everyone. The house included blue cocktail tables around the pool and the couple purchased pretty white umbrellas to keep the guests cool. Hanging from the umbrellas were different sized mint and grey lanterns provided by KTSE. The couple provided their own alcohol and A Thyme Savor provided 2 bartenders. Jelena + Steven even made special signature drinks for each member of the bridal party!

Once the cocktail hour came to an end, everyone went upstairs for dinner catered by A Thyme Savor. The tables were set with white linens, mint runners (sew by the talented bride), white napkins, white plates, water goblets and shots of a plum brandy from Serbia brought by the bride's family. The plum brandy is a traditional Serbian wedding cocktail and supposed to be sipped to full enjoy it. We rented tables, chairs, linens and plateware from Shoreline Party Rentals. There were also plated salads and bread baskets on each table. They decided to have a family-style dinner consisting of beef tenderloin, pecan encrusted chicken, assorted vegetables, mashed potatoes and some other yummy sides.

Following dinner, guests were invited back downstairs for the rest of the reception. Jelena's dress was transformed into the perfect cocktail dress. Her mother made her dress so that the bottom came off and underneath was a cocktail length skirt. This was a huge surprise for all! There were lights strung above the dance floor. The couple made a Spotify playlist that played all night. The couple danced the night away while also snacking on assorted pies and other mini deserts made by a local bakery called Sugar Island Bakery. It was a beautiful evening with an even more beautiful couple! We had such a great time getting to know Jelena + Steve. Thank you so much for having us as part of your wonderful wedding! We wish you all the best!

Jelena's WeddingWire Review:
"I was on the fence about getting a wedding coordinator but I'm so glad I did! We had an 90 person wedding at a beach house on Topsail Island. I'm a very low maintenance and low stress person so I was unsure if bringing in someone would be overbearing and more stressful. We worked with Knot Too Shabby Events (month of coordination) and everything went really well. Again, I'm so glad they were there. We planned most of our wedding ourselves and KTSE helped us execute our vision with ease and no stress. Melissa is wonderful to work with. Very easy going but detail oriented, organized and capable. Her team is awesome too! Hard working and very nice. I highly recommend them!"

july 2015 showroom at Party Suppliers

We were so honored that Party Suppliers selected Knot Too Shabby Events as the planner of the month this past July! We were offered the opportunity to create our very own design and tablescape to put on display for the entire month.

We decided to go with an organic yet modern tone finished with a gorgeous centerpiece arranged by Eco Chic Blossoms. Kristy at Eco Chic used artichokes, succulents, Spanish moss and snapdragons to create a long-lasting centerpiece. We dressed the table with a subtle mint linen and placed a white lace runner on top for a rustic yet ro
mantic feel. Each place setting was set with gold silverware, modern gold stemware, and a detailed gold charger complete with bride & groom mad libs for some fun!

Imaginary Cakes designed a bohemian faux wedding cake to have on display throughout the month as well! For detail, we used birch wood escort cards and succulent party favors in adorable cranberry pots. I spent some time thrifting at local thrift shops to find the bronzed vases that we put aloe and succulents in We topped off the look with Spanish moss covered candle votives and floating candles. I had so much fun designing this theme. It's natural, earthy feel is what makes it so unique. Kailey Faith took stunning photos of the display and we are so proud to have had this opportunity!

Justine + Renato's RiverFront wedding 7.10.15

10/14/2015

Justine + Renato tied the knot at The RiverRoom on Saturday, July 10, 2015. The ceremony was held on the deck of The RiverRoom and they had 70 of their closest friends and family members there to witness the marriage. The bridal party was lined up against the historic brick J.W. Brooks building right before the ceremony. The guests sat in white resin chairs lining the the aisle.

Knot Too Shabby Events was hired for the month of coordination. The tables had either a blue or oyster linen on it, as the colors alternated throughout the event space. The napkins were white and had a Mad Lib on top of each place setting. The floral centerpieces were assembled by KTSE based on the bride's design. Eco Chic Blossoms did the beautiful bouquets, as well as the boutonnieres. The blue linen tables had white hydrangea and coral rose floral centerpieces while the white linen tables had black lanterns with candles and coral rose petals inside of them.

After the ceremony, DJ Wilmington invited all of the guests inside to celebrate the newly married couple. DJ Wilmington then introduced the bridal party into the reception, where there was an open bar for guests to enjoy bottled beer, wine, champagne and two signature liquor drinks. After the introductions, Justine +  Renato had a choreographed dance to "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran.  Their first dance was so magical and heart warming. After their first dance, the father of the bride shared a blessing. Bon Appetit Catering then invited guests to enjoy a tasty buffet style dinner. After dinner, the three-tier ombre wedding cake from Creative Cake Design by Tammy Hodge was served.

Justine + Renato danced the night away with their family and friends. They had a gorgeous bubble send off. They are such a beautiful couple and we are so blessed to have been a part of their special day. Congratulations Justine + Renato - may you two have a life full of happiness and everlasting love!

Justine's WeddingWire Review:
"Melissa was amazing! She is friendly and easy to work with, and she listens to your ideas and what you want. She was very accessible so I could always count on hearing from her when I had questions or concerns. The day of the wedding and reception went so smoothly that I didn't notice any problems come up at all, which means she did her job! :) I also asked her to decorate the space with the supplies I provided. I had a general idea of what I wanted the space to look like, but asked her to just "make it look good" and when I saw the space, it looked wonderful. So whether you know exactly how you want everything set up, or you want to trust the styling to your planner, Melissa is a great choice for both. I would easily trust her again with another event!"

Favorite Wedding Moment:
Seeing Renato's face when he saw Justine for the first time. Renato was very involved throughout the planning process and it was so sweet to watch him as he saw his stunning bride walk down the aisle. I'm sure it was more moving to him than he imagined it would be.

Dick + Peggy's 50th Wedding anniversary - 7.5.15

10/12/2015

On July 5th, 2015, Dick + Peggy Slye celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple and their entire family shared their love and joy for each other on this beautiful sunny day on North Topsail Island. Knot Too Shabby Events was hired to make this day a breeze while the rest of the family enjoyed their wonderful vacation home.

There were two rooms of the house utilized for the event. In the dining room, there was a buffet counter for the food and a long table with 25 chairs for all of the family to sit together. The tables were layered with white linens and navy overlays from Shoreline Party Rentals. The table was decorated with floral centerpieces by Flora Verdi and mercury glass candle votives rented from KTSE.

Before dinner started, the family had their pictures taken by Purple Monkey Photography. All of the families took photos with their individual families and then as a big group. We think it is such a good idea to hire a professional photographer for rare occasions like this. Thyme Savor Catering prepared a vast array of tremendous food. The buffet consisted of seafood platters as well as kids' meals with chicken tenders and mac & cheese. It is always hard to pass up mac & cheese, even for adults.

One of their granddaughters prepared a slideshow presentation for them, which they watched during dinner. She recreated their lifetime of love using pictures and videos from the day her grandparents met to the present. It was extremely heartfelt and it even made some of us tear up.

After dinner, the guests went into another oceanfront room for dessert and dancing. Active DJ Entertainment had guests of all ages up and dancing with smiles on their faces. Watching Dick + Peggy interact with each other was such a wonderful experience within itself. This was such an enjoyable day and we were so happy to be a part of it. Their love has lasted 50 years and every day is a new journey in which they take together. Your undying love is truly admirable. We wish you many more years of love and happiness, congratulations!

Favorite Party Moment:
One of the grandchildren created a really touching slideshow to play during the dinner. Dick + Peggy had no idea what she had been working on for months. It was really sweet to watch their granddaughter narrate through each slide and show many family photos that had not been seen in years. Some family members were seeing these photos for the first time too. This moment just reminded me how bless I am to have such a big, loving family as well!

Taneia + Marc's Holiday Weekend Wedding - 7.3.15

10/12/2015

Taneia + Marc wed at The RiverRoom on July 3, 2015, an undoubtedly perfect way to start the holiday weekend! The guests and bridal party were escorted to the venue by Event Shuttle Service on a lovely Friday afternoon. The ceremony was held on the deck outside, where 55 of their closest friends and family were able to enjoy a perfect summer day along the Cape Fear River. The aisle was decorated with a white runner that read “Today I Marry My Best Friend” along with white lanterns from ETC Party Rentals. At the end of the aisle, we set up an arbor with white sheer fabric and two large floral arrangements. The bridesmaids' bouquets and boutonnieres were from Julia's Florist. The bridal party flowers were a mix of orange, pink, and white lilies, which created a romantic yet fun, summer feel.

DJ Wilmington provided music for the ceremony and reception. Taneia looked absolutely beautiful as she walked down the aisle to meet her soon-to-be husband and best friend. Taneia + Marc were not afraid to show their excitement as they said "I do" and became husband and wife. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to enjoy cocktail hour inside The RiverRoom. Champagne was served along with a delicious cheese and fruit display provided by Middle of the Island Catering.

This reception was particularly unique because this couple was not afraid to use bright colors! Each table was decorated with a coral linen and each chair had a turquoise tie; this was such a perfect color combination for their summer wedding. The exposed brick venue looked stunning as each table was decorated with a black lantern with small candle votives around it. Taneia + Marc had their own sweetheart table with signs that read “Bride” and “Groom” on their chairs, as well as personalized champagne glasses that read “Mr” and “Mrs".

After DJ Wilmington introduced the bridal party into the reception, there was an open bar for guests to enjoy bottled beer, wine, and champagne. After the introductions, Taneia +  Marc shared their first dance as husband and wife, followed by a blessing by the officiant, Luther Moore III. Middle of the Island then invited guests to enjoy a tasty buffet style dinner. After dinner, toasts were made and the two-tier wedding cake from One Belle Bakery was served. Guests were finally welcomed to be a part of the good luck dance followed by a lot more dancing before the evening came to a close. The smiling faces and positivity of Taniea + Marc made the countless hours of planning worth it! We are so honored to have been a part of Taneia + Marc’s special day! Congratulations you two!

Taneia's WeddingWire Review:
"A wedding planning gem... Melissa’s professionalism, expertise, and wide vision were key in the most enjoyable time of our lives. Even for our small wedding of 54 guests at the River Room on July 3, 2015, we realized that it needs just as much work, if not more, than a larger wedding.
From the beginning, she understood the big picture, listened to our needs, and offered amazing advice and alternatives. She is an expert planner who has plenty of ideas of her own, but always understands that this is your day and allows you to have your own opinion, which sets her apart as a true event planner vs just any other planner.
Our wedding was a dream from beginning to end, without a single worry from our end. We were both completely relaxed, knowing Melissa would handle everything perfectly, which she did.
Melissa is a true gem. Her no-nonsense approach, tireless work ethic, and creativity will all come together to give you the best event or wedding you've ever dreamed- and beyond! We highly recommend Knot Too Shabby Events. Thank you so much for everything."

Favorite Wedding Moment:
Watching Taneia + Marc during their first dance. They chose "Living For The Love of You" by the Isley Brothers. You could just see how obviously in love they are and I almost couldn't help but just stare at them as they held each other during this romantic dance.

C + J's USS NC Battleship Wedding - 5.23.15

10/7/2015

C + J tied the knot on a sunny Saturday in May! The wedding was extra special because both their ceremony and reception were held on the monumental USS North Carolina Battleship! This was Knot Too Shabby Events' first event on the Battleship and we provided a full service planning package! It was great working with the couple from the beginning of the planning process to the end of the wedding day. We had beautiful weather in Wilmington, which led to great photos of this even greater couple. The photographers were Jeff and Lori of indigosilver studios, one of our fav photographers to work with! Tyler Kent Salon made sure the bride and her bridesmaids looked flawless with special updos and airbrush makeup. The wonderful ceremony was officiated by the bride's brother and included music from DJ Wilmington. The ceremony took place facing the historic WWII airplane on the ship with two large floral arrangements on pillars and gold floating candles at the alter.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour while the newlyweds and the rest of the bridal party were on the other side of the Battleship taking pictures. Dinner was catered by Middle of The Island and was very tasty, per usual. A Boxed Event provided the beautiful flowers and an exceptional head table with a dramatic floral runner atop a gold sequined linen. ETC Part Rentals provided the unique mismatched and textured linens throughout the tables to go with the old Hollywood glam theme; which included black and white striped, gold textured, and light pink linens. The couple couldn't choose just one wedding cake so we had 8 cakes from Creative Cake Design by Tammy Hodge. The couple even gave away cake party favors in cute little cake boxes with personalized labels. Everything look amazing and we are so happy to be part of this special Battleship wedding! Congratulations  C + J, we wish you many years of love and happiness!

Wilmington Weddings + Events Feature:

Wilmington Weddings + Events recently featured this pretty wedding on their blog. Take a look this blog written by the bride. It's nice to hear about it from her perspective!

WeddingWire Review:
"I told Melissa from our first phone conversation that my main goal was to have fun at my wedding. I plan events during the year, so I just wanted to show up relaxed instead of working hard at my own wedding. Melissa and her team made every step of the wedding flawless and easy. We live in a different state, so Melissa's knowledge of the vendors and the town were crucial. I cannot stress enough how professional her whole team was during the day of my wedding and how professional Melissa was while we were in the planning stages. We found Melissa online since we didn't know anyone in Wilmington and decided to talk to her mainly because her prices were right on her website. Thank goodness we booked her! She was a dream to work with and kept us both calm and happy in the planning stages as well as relaxed on the day of our wedding. I literally did not stress at all because I knew Melissa was going to handle it. The vendors she pointed us towards were incredible. People are still talking about the food, and we hardly had any leftovers. I am in love with my wedding photos, and the venue looked perfect because of the vendor Melissa recommended. My husband and I are incredibly frugal, but Melissa's services from Knot Too Shabby were worth every penny! Thanks, Melissa!"

Favorite Wedding Moment:
The wedding took place a few days after "Red Nose Day" so one of the guest passed out red noses. Before we knew it, half of the guests were wearing them, including DJ David. It was so cute to see. One of the guest was also a magician so the wedding was filled with magic tricks and juggling. You don't see this every day. I loved it!
