Morgan and Timmie’s Virginia wedding was like Cool Kid Summer Camp that also had adult beverages. Not only was this wedding memorable for our team because it was our first out-of-state wedding (and one of our favorite couples), Morgan and Timmie’s wedding will ALWAYS live in infamy because it included an event that not many people know about…… 9/18/2020 is the day that Melissa and I crashed a golf cart into cocktail hour. Morgan Robertson, founder, editor, and creative director of ModMotion, used to live in Wilmington, NC. As one of our favorite videographers, we worked with her often before she moved back to Richmond, VA. When it came time for her wedding, our team was the one she wanted to coordinate their day, even when it included the extra costs to bring our team in from out-of-state. She knew she wanted the level of attention to detail and professionalism that Melissa and our Knot Too Shabby team brings to the table. Morgan and Timmie had envisioned a unique and personable wedding experience for their guests. It was set with a BEAUTIFUL backdrop of the rolling hills of Crozet, Virginia at MontfairResortFarm. Every detail was accounted for including personalized camping mugs, an opportunity to canoe around the lake, smores around a fire, an origami crane photo booth, lanterns hung from the trees, buried booze for tradition, and one dope bride and groom. We were ecstatic to be a part. One of Morgan’s important details of her vision included a collection of vintage rugs that were scattered down the aisle for the ceremony. But being the KTSE resourceful-detail-istas that we are, wanted to re-use the rugs during cocktail hour and the reception. While the ceremony was on a bucolic hillside, the reception was about a ½ mile down by the lake and lodge. We had a large tent/dance floor set up lakeside and then utilized a blanket of sky and stars for the firepit and lounge. We couldn’t carry the rugs that far, So Melissa and I decide to roll up the rugs and bring them down in the golf cart. While we were at it, we cut down the large floral arrangements attached to the arbor – we can put those somewhere pretty too! Melissa is in the driver's seat, the rugs are rolled up in the passenger seat, and I am standing on the back of the cart, holding the giant floral arrangements in place across the back seat. The weather couldn’t have been better that day, but we had recently gotten a lot of rain so everything was a little… soft. We take the back way around to access the waterfront and Melissa tactfully drives the cart between the tent and the water – about a 6-foot-wide space. Well as we turn the golf cart to head toward the fire pit area, the golf cart starts to roll backward into the lake, shifting all the contents in the golf cart. Melissa hits the gas to save us from rolling into the lake. All of a sudden, the cart careens out of control toward cocktail hour (and guests)!! It probably happened in two seconds, but time slowed down as I watched our lives (and careers) flash before our eyes. Guests are jumping out of the way. There’s shouting and commotion. And the golf cart slams into two MASSIVE wooden picnic tables. Now, ask any member of our team how heavy these things were (shout out to Jared!!) because we had to move them, and LUCKILY we had put two end-to-end, so the golf cart wedged under a picnic table and wasn’t forceful enough to move two. I had jumped off the back as we were flying toward the crowd and Melissa has jumped out shouting, “IT WON’T STOP!! IT WON’T STOP!!!” What we didn’t realize as we zoomed away from almost rolling into the lake is that the rugs had wedged themselves against the gas pedal!! A couple of wonderful guests jumped in to help, and as we all pulled backward on the golf cart – tires still spinning midair – we were able to unwedge the rugs from the gas pedal. We returned the picnic tables to their place, stomped back in the turfs of unearthed grass, took a moment to assure the rattled flower girl that everything was okay and no one was hurt, and then all had a decent laugh about it – guests and all. The saddest part is that Morgan and Timmy were off taking their pictures with their photo/video team so none of it was caught on camera; In fact, they were forming their own camp story as they witnessed the video team’s canoe capsize, but that’s another story for another day. We were so grateful that this fateful accident happened with a couple that KNEW us and is also in the biz and knows mistakes DO happen – every wedding, behind every great vendor team. But one of the most memorable things that I witnessed was Melissa’s resiliency and her ability to shake off such a frazzling event because, well, the show must go on! You’ll notice that WE rarely use the word perfect to describe a wedding day because well, they rarely ever are. But the hours and hours of pre-planning, experience, and ability to keep calm in the chaos is what helps the inevitable mishaps, at best, never even come to anyone’s attention or, at worst, turn in to laughable camp stories. What happens at Cool Kid Summer Camp doesn’t always stay at Cool Kid Summer Camp, but it sure makes for a hilarious story to tell around the next campfire. Happy Anniversary, Morgan and Timmie! Katie + Waylon tied the knot on the gorgeous beach of Emerald Isle, NC almost one year ago today on Saturday, September 24, 2016. The sun was shining, the ocean was crystal blue, and love was in the air. Their reception was held at the Southern Breeze beach house with their closest friends and family members. When having a destination wedding, one of the greatest joys is that the family can all be in the same house getting ready. When we arrived that morning, the women were in the living room drinking coffee, sharing laughs and reminiscing on memories. We headed outside and began set up! The ceremony was set with padded white chairs with purple bows tied on the back. There were mason jar flower arrangements hanging on each chair of the aisle. They had a four-post bamboo arbor with white fabric and beautiful flowers from Fiore Fine Flowers cascading on both sides. They chose not to use any ceremony music and to walk down the aisle to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Katie's father, Gary, escorted her down the aisle. They had a simple and sweet ceremony officiated by Rev. Paula Bradley. Following the ceremony, guests walked up the boardwalk through the gazebo, to the reception outside the beach house! The reception was so incredibly beautiful and bright. There were round tables for guest seating set with white linens, orange napkins, full place settings with a wooden slab in the center, topped with a purple bud vase, a tiny silver lantern, and a beautiful floral centerpiece. Their sweetheart table had a purple linen, 2 lanterns and Katie's bouquet. There were edison lights zig zagged across the reception space illuminating the night. One of the coolest things about their wedding was their DIY bar! We usually don't recommend this but they had a really nice way of doing it for this intimate crowd. They had a stocked bar with beer, wine, liquor and even a signature drink - Waylon's Wacky Lemonade! They had an app on their iPad that you could make any drink you want. There was even an option to do a roulette if you didn't know what you wanted to drink or you wanted to make your friend a fun cocktail! To keep the guests' stomachs satisfied during cocktail hour, Crabs Claw set up a large display of hors d'oeuvres including a cheese platter, a fruit platter, crab dips, grilled pitas, blackened shrimp skewers, meatballs and more! When Katie + Waylon were finished with sunset pictures, Katie's dad got on the balcony and introduced them for the first time as husband and wife!! As if everyone hadn't already eaten enough, dinner was served! After dinner, Katie + Waylon cut their beautiful 2 tier cake from Sugarloaf Island Bakery. Everyone was so excited for all of the desserts. They had banana pudding shooters, s'mores shooters, and 6 dozen cookies! The kids were happy with desserts, the adults were happy with their fun drinks, and everyone got to celebrate Katie + Waylon all night! Congrats Katie + Waylon! We hope every day is full of love, comfort, and enjoyment! Happy Anniversary! Click on images below to enlarge. Our Favorite Wedding Moment: Watching Katie's dad introduce Katie + Waylon from the balcony of the 2nd floor. He had so much enthusiasm while doing it and his love shined through! It was so sweet and so special! Vendors

However, we had one uninvited guest - a tropical storm. Have no fear though, we had an amazing plan B for a reception-style ceremony. Amanda spent the morning getting pampered with her ladies. They started by getting their hair done at Harbour Club Day Spa and then transitioned to the Brooklyn Arts Center bridal manse for makeup with Amy Kennison. While Amanda and her ladies were getting ready, we set up the church! We were able to still have a few rows of cross back chairs on each side of the aisle for immediate family while the remaining guests sat in their chairs at farm tables facing the stage. The church was filled with different types of greenery and floral blooms in bud vases. There were burlap-wrapped plants lining the stairs and aisle. A large wooden cross was centered on the stage decorated with loose greenery, white roses, and white hydrangeas. Raindrops tapped the windows, Edison lights hung from above from Wilmington Uplighting, and the lush greenery set a romantic and calming mood. As guests entered the church, candles were lit, tables were set, Active DJ had great music playing, the Knot Too Shabby Events team was greeting guests and the groomsmen were ushering guests. Once all of the guests arrived, we started the processional. Amanda + Drew were like something out of a story book. Even though they had shared a beautiful first look before the ceremony, his face light up when he saw Amanda walk down the aisle. Her stunning dress and gorgeous curly locks had everyone speechless as she walked down the aisle. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed Middle of the Island's cheese and fruit display and sipped on beer, wine, and champagne from the bar. Nine Thirty Creative used the balcony to take photos of Amanda + Drew. The rainy backdrop did not disappoint! Once cocktail hour ended, Drew gave a welcome/thank you to all of their guests. Middle of the Island then opened the buffet for the wedding party and guests. After dinner, toasts were given and dancing began. Amanda + Drew kicked off dancing with their first dance to "The Shape of Us" by Ian Britt. Amanda shared a dance with her father and then Drew and his mother joined in half way through the song! Following parent dances, they shared a good luck dance with their guests and continued to dance the night away! Happy One Year Anniversary Amanda + Drew! We wish you many, many more years of celebrations! Hope you have a rain-free anniversary but maybe a little rain wouldn't be so bad after all! Click on images below to enlarge. Favorite Wedding Moment: Seeing Amanda for the first time the morning of the wedding day once she realized she wouldn't be able to have the ceremony outside like she once hoped. She was disappointed but she wasn't going to let this ruin her spirit. She was calm and relaxed over the whole thing. I listened to her concerns and assured her that everything was going to work out and made it my mission to give her and Drew the best wedding day possible. And that we did, so it was a great moment! Sometimes, we have to have tough conversations with our clients and my heart hurt for her but I knew we had a great backup plan. Vendors
